THE BIG MOVIE MAGIC REVIEW 2014: HORROR MOVIES There were several horror movies released during 2014, as usual Horror movies dont make the same amount of money as the big budget blockbusters, however most horror movies cost between $5-10 million, however easily make that amount in the worldwide gross, especially the Domestic gross where Horror movies are still in great demand. The year opened with a new take on the Paranormal Activity franchise, with its first spin-off the Marked ones. If you hadnt of read the front cover then you would of thought that you were watching one of the previous entries, its the same old hand held camera stuff that has spanned the previous films, itll give you a little more insight as to where the series is going, however the question is with each one being so predictable, do we really care? Well it made $90,904,854 so there is still an audience out there. Oculus stars Dr Who companion Karen Gillian in a horror movie that will have you not looking into mirrors for quite some time. It was very well received by critics with even some of the movie magazines giving it a big thumbs up. However it was later in the year that another horror movie made such an impact, The Babadook, which features a character from a childs book come to life, it all seems a little nursery rhyme-ish however its fresh look and originality earned it a 5 star review in many magazines, only a handful of Horror movies these days get to have that honor. Annabelle is a spin off movie, or rather prequel, based supposedly on true events, if you enjoyed the Conjuring then youll enjoy this, it features the cursed doll that had little to do than get stuck behind a glass case in The Conjuring. Other Horror movies that came out this year were Devils Due, The Purge: Anarchy, As Above,so below.
