THE BOOK OF CHRONICLES OF AN IJEBU BROTHER The assumption of office by Otunba Justus Olugbenga Daniel as Governor of Ogun State on May 29, 2003, heralded hope and purposefulness. Considered a political upstart coming from the private sector, critics and opponents gave the Ijebu born Otunba Daniel no chance because, to them, he had little or no experience in public service. But between 2003-2011, Otunba Daniel proved critics wrong as the over 7million Ogun people found rythm in oneness, steadfastness and unity. Otunba Daniel held onto the welfare of the people and the people in turn showed him love and acceptability. OGD did not only in his 8 years, provide purposeful leadership but conceived a strategy to arrest poverty in the state while opening frontier to wealth creation and growth sustenance. The mindset to liberate our people from poverty is encapsulated in his personal pledge he made in 2003 My pledge is to secure our peoples hard-won political freedom with economic rights by enunciating and implementing programmes that free the teeming masses of our people from hunger, ignorance, disease and powerlessness. He can best be descibed as a man who laid the foundation of modern Ogun State. OGD guaranteed the future of Ogun State by turning the state from civil service state to investment destination of choice. This is testified to by the sheer number of industries and companies that litter Ogun state today. Over 70 companies were established and over 100 others already laid their foundation or under construction while many others had acquired lands before his exit in 2011. Some of these companies will be listed soon. He indeed transformed Ogun from very low industrial activity to very high industrial activity. OGD demystified governance and propelled socio-economic progress in tangible and visible dimensions across the length and breadth of Ogun State. So much could be recalled about remarkable achievements which make Ogun people proud at all times. Its gratifying that the dreams and visions of our fathers and heroes found a willing ally and ardent faithful in OGD whose vision for a modern Ogun State was explained fully in his Contract with Ogun People 2003-2007 and Agenda for a Secured Future 2007-2011. We recall with pride the outstanding achievements of His Excellency, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in Education, Agriculture, Socials, Capital Investments, Health, Road, Commerce, Human Capital, Infrastructure, Environment, Water, Creation of Agencies, Electricity, Sports, ICT, series of uncommon innovations like foundation laying for life and economic impacting projects like the first Agro-Cargo Airport, Olokola Deepsea Port, Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas, Free Trade Zones, First Industrial Park among others numerous to mention. Joyfully, the genuine patriots of Ogun State are eternally grateful for the exempliary and remarkable leadership provided by the Lion of the West, OGD. They are happy that Ogun through OGD has become investors delight. They rejoice because in him was found a welfarist who uphold the tenet that survival is a priority and not eye service acts. Subsequently, the legacies of Otunba Daniel will be briefly chronicled for posterity to note. Kindly follow as I keep you posted.
