Initially located in the Columban monastery on the Isle of Kells, it is now housed in the library of Trinity College, Dublin. Written in Latin, the Book of Kells consists of the four gospels of the New Testament, that of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, each of which is begins with the relevant portrait.
