THE BOOK OF ROMANS Sunday – September 8, 2013 – Romans 15:1-2 “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification” There it is, point blank, what we have been reading all week. We that are stronger in the faith have a responsibility to those weaker in the faith to bear their problems, help them, strengthen them. We are not to have the attitude that it isn’t our fault they don’t have a strong faith. Too often we seem to think they ought to suffer a little, learn on their own, fall down and learn to get up. After all, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Paul isn’t pulling any punches here, not tenderly trying to suggest that there is anything wrong. He is saying without reservation that the spiritual growth of a younger Christian is something all of us need to be concerned about. Some close friends of ours just welcomed their first great grandchild into the world yesterday. She is healthy and will be coming home with her mother in just a few days. She will probably wake up every couple of hours needing to be fed and have her diapers changed, she will need a lot of attention to learn to love the family, and she will begin to grow. Soon she will be eating food that is a little more solid than the formula she will be drinking to start, and before long she will be eating at the table with the rest of the family. A new Christian is just like that. When someone is born-again, they are new to the family of God. They have never tasted of the bread of life, nor drank from the water that Jesus gives. We would be poor siblings if we simply said, let them learn for themselves, that way they will remember. Would you do that to the newborn child? ‘Let her find her own food, nobody is gonna provide for her all her life. She needs to learn to provide for herself’. Social services would soon step in and take that child away from us, and rightfully so. Why do we not feel the newborn Christian does not need attention, ‘baby-sitting’ if you will. It is called discipleship! My prayer for today- A new baby is such a joy to welcome into the world, Lord. Scripture says that children are an heritage from You, the ‘fruit’ of the womb. A newborn Christian should be nothing less. May each of us take seriously the responsibility of his or her growth in Christ. Soon they will be mature Christians and bringing forth more fruit, and our family of God will grow. For these daily devotions/studies to truly apply to your life, you must first belong to God. He will welcome you because He loves you, even before you love Him. He loves you so much that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Scripture tells us that if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation, (Romans 10:9-10). Won’t you confess today and ask Jesus to forgive your sins and be your Savior? He is waiting with open arms…
