THE BREAK OF DAWN Are you sad, and having sleepless nights - TopicsExpress

THE BREAK OF DAWN Are you sad, and having sleepless nights because of a problem? Have you been overwhelmed by issues, and feel youve hit the wall; and have no where else to turn to? Dont get despaired, I have good news for you! Your dawn is about to break! It has been observed that the period of the night when darkness is thickest is few minutes to daybreak. This phenomenon is the same in the lives of human beings - few moments to a major breakthrough in the life of a person, is when one experiences major challenges. Many years ago, someone I knew very well, a mate in school, took his life! He had gone through terrible storms of life. Though he had a very good first degree from a famous university in Ghana, was jobless, and after many fruitless effort in searching for a job for years, decided to start his own business. He managed to secure loans, and started a small shop where he sold printing papers at Kokomlemle in Accra. Business was good, but just as he was halfway through in paying the loans he took, disaster struck - there was a continuous heavy downpour one weekend which flooded most parts of Kokomlemle and destroyed all the printing papers he was selling. After sympathizing with him for some few months, his creditors started mounting pressure on him to pay back the loans. Fortunately for him, friends and some of his relatives helped him to settle a greater chunk of the loans, and he somehow had some respite. But he was jobless again, and had to live on the benevolence of friends and relatives. One day, he had a misunderstanding with a relative who told him that he is a begger and a hopeless university graduate. The youngman was hurt by those insults, and thought that life was not worth living, if he is seen in the eyes of people as a graduate begger; and he committed the act. Sadly, few weeks after his death, his parents received a letter from a university in the United States, offering him a full scholarship to study a masters degree programme! He applied for the programme, and had waited for years without response. In my book, The Greedy Woman and the Hidden Treasure, I told a story of an orphan who lived with his uncles in a farming village. In spite of the fact that the youngman was loyal to his uncles and worked hard for them, they abused him and evicted him from their home over a minor issue, but someone was kind enough to give him a piece of land to build his own hut. There was a famine in the village. Kudjo, the youngman woke up early one morning to look for food in the forest, and after searching without getting anything, left for home dejected and hungry. On his way home, he saw a thick smoke coming out of his hut; he ran to the scene and found his hut on fire. All effort to get the fire extinguished failed, the hut together with all his belongings got burnt to ashes, and the only property he had left was the farm attire he was wearing. There was no place for him to sleep, and what made the matter worse was that the clouds had gathered and it was threatening to rain. Kudjo though was very tired and hungry cut some poles to put up a temporary shelter to prevent the rain from beating him. As he was digging holes to erect the poles, the digging bar went smoothly into the soil, and when he pulled it, saw some powdered golden substance on the tip. He carefully dug and pulled out a pot, and to his surprise the pot was full of gold dust! Isnt this amazing? 1 Thesalonians 5:18 encourages us to thank God in all circumstances for that is Gods will for us in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:28 also tells us that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, and have been called according to His purpose. Interestingly, if Kudjo was not evicted by his uncles, and the hut not burnt; and if he had not persevered to build another hut in the face of tiredness and hunger, there was no way he could have found the hidden treasure. Folks, in times such as this, let us remain steadfast, and trade our pains, our sorrows, our shame with the joy of The Lord, and He will not disappoint. On this score, I want to encourage the good people of Ghana not to get despaired in the face of current economic challenges because dawn is about to break in the history of Ghana with the completion of the Atuabo Gas Plant which is undoubtedly the best strategic project this country has ever had apart from the Akosombo Dam. What the Atuabo project is bringing to this nation is immeasurable and unthinkable. No wonder His Excellency, President Mahama has referred to it as the Game Changer. Apart from the fact that the gas plant is going to help solve the perennial energy crisis in this country, there would be cheap production of energy which would enable energy utility service providers to reduce electricity tarrif; or not increasing tarrif unreasonably for a long time. Besides, the 500 million dollars which is used to purchase crude oil every year to power our thermal plants, can now be used for other developmental projects. For instance, this amount can construct 2,500km of asphalt roads every year. Oh yes, it is true that there is light at the end of every dark tunnel; the Better Ghana Agenda is on course! My brothers and sisters, I still believe that President Mahama is the quintessential president, and Im by this article assuring you that there is hope for Ghana under his leadership. If we will have little patience as a nation, our challenges would be used as stepping stones to our success. Anthony Obeng Afrane
