THE Big Brother Africa house has gone up in flames before the new season could even start. The M-Net show was supposed to return to television on Sunday at 7pm. Luckily no one was injured in the fire on Tuesday afternoon at Sasani Studios in Highlands North, Joburg. Police are investigating the incident. M-Net and production company Endemol SA announced that the show would not be launched on Sunday as scheduled. Michelle Esau from M-Net parent company MultiChoice said they were shocked by the fire. Not only was the show meant to start this weekend, they had also arranged for some media personalities to go into the house tomorrow. Esau told Daily Sun M-Net and Endemol were still looking for an alternative house where they could shoot the programme. “We are still waiting to hear from MultiChoice corporate but so far nothing has been said. The new house might not be in Mzansi,” she said. The studio is about five minutes from North View Fire Department but that didn’t help matters. Emergency Services spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said: “Most of the stuff inside was burnt. I can’t guess the cost of the damage. The good thing is that no one was inside the house.” Mulaudzi said the fire department responded to the call within five minutes. “But it was very difficult for us to get in because there was no one there,” he said.
