THE CASSANDRA WHO FORESAW THE CBI INQUIRY Thursday, 15 May 2014 | Pioneer | in Bhubaneswar 7 The ubiquitious money laundering business, popularly known as chit fund in Odisha, has received a severe jolt after the pronouncement of the judgement by a Division Bench of the Supreme Court to be under the CBI scanner. The principal architect who did put the ball into the apex court is none but the maverick social activist Alok Jena from Odisha, who has suffered, struggled, hoped and endured for the sea of suffering humanity for bringing the guilty to justice while upholding the cause of the helpless and hapless masses. In an interview to The Pioneer, Jena spoke to Sugyan Choudhury elaborately. On being asked what prompted him to file a PIL in the Supreme Court, Jena replied that ever since from his childhood he was inspired by his mother and by the blessings of his spiritual mentor Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra, founder of Satsang, to wage a war against tyranny, misdeeds and corruption in the society where we live in. He is sure that the spiritual power of his invisible divine guru along with the blessings of his mother will enable him to defeat the insolent mighty and their vicious circles, however high-placed they may be. Jena further revealed that he was shocked to know that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, his Cabinet colleagues, bureaucrats, high-police officials, influential persons like the Advocate General are allegedly involved in this mega chit fund scam in our State. On being questioned about the figure of the population involved, Jena quoted the Supreme Court putting the number of sufferers at around 25 lakh in Odisha. Further being asked as to why he could not keep faith in the State Crime Branch’s inquiry into the scam, Jena fumed that the present bosses of the Crime Branch did nothing when the mega chit fund episode was carried on in full swing for long years. Barring the solitary exception of a company worth Rs16 lakh which they booked, nothing beyond it was done although this chit fund syndrome from Odisha spread to 14 other States in India including Jammu & Kashmir. Citing a glaring example of police inaction, Jena said that one Mir Saiuddin of Jaleswar in the district of Baleswar was the CMD of Green Ray International. After looting 14 other States including J&K, Mir Saiuddin is now operating from Dubai and Nigeria. What was the Crime Branch doing, asked Jena in a state of righteous indignation. The petitioner Jena never minces words. He is prepared to call a spade a spade. He has reasons to believe by way of documentary evidences that how an infamous chit fund player had purchased a piece of Government land from a High Court judge and then how the property changed hands and was repurchased by the Advocate General throwing all norms to the winds. The reason behind it was very simple to be understood, he said. Thus, the vicious tentacles of these types of chit fund companies are getting the covert or overt support of influential persons, Jena observed. Jena wondered as to how someone who is well-versed in law could purchase a piece of land from the Artha Tatwa company for rupees one crore and one thousand violating the rules therein. Finally being asked about his last course of action, Jena expressed his implicit faith and the trust of 25 lakh of people in the apex court, which, he said, is the temple of justice and fair play. The historic judgement of the Division Bench comprising Justice TS Thakur and Justice C Nagappan directing the CBI to conduct inquiry under their supervision will establish the triumph of truth over falsehood, he thundered. Jena remembers with moistened eyes and with gratitude as to how as a humble petitioner he was allowed by the court amicus curiae at a time when his counsel Suresh Tripathy had allegedly completely failed him.It is at this critical point of time the Hon’ble court came to his rescue as his saviour and allowed amicus curiae like Sham Divan with whom he assisted the exalted court in its proceedings. Jena finally believes in the power and providence of the highest court of the land, which will carry this unprecedented mega scam to its logical conclusion. Jena also wanted to keep on record his obligations to RTI (right to information) activists Jayanta Kumar Dash, a former Air Force officer, and Pradip Pradhan of the Odisha Soochna Adhikar Abhijan for their unstinted support to him in his fight for justice to the duped chit fund investors.
