THE CHRISTIAN LIFE … And the disciples were called Christians - TopicsExpress

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE … And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch (Acts 11:26). To be a Christian is more than attending church services on Sundays or being a member of a local church. When you say you’re a Christian, understand that you’re not identifying with a religion, because Christianity is not a religion! Rather, you’re declaring the lordship of the Lord Jesus Christ over your life. The Holy Spirit admonishes us in Hebrews 10:25: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” This isn’t a suggestion but an instruction. There are folks who would rather be present at social, family, or business functions at the expense of their church meetings. This attitude is carnal! Understand that you’re first a Christian before you’re anything else! That means your service to the Lord and full time commitment to His cause must be your utmost priority. You can’t continue to run your life with the same old pursuits and mindsets you had before you were saved. Some of God’s children are still too conscious of the old life; that’s why they claim to have a Christian life, a business life, a family life, and a school life. Just as you can’t decide to be a man today and a woman tomorrow, in the same way Christianity isn’t a cloak you put on and off whenever you wish; it’s who you are. You’re a Christian-businessman, -family man, -student, and as such, your conduct in all these areas must reflect who you are. Your Christianity should take pre-eminence over every other thing in your life. Jesus has become your Lord and that means ‘the Boss of your life.’ He alone has the final say concerning everything that has to do with your life. It’s for this reason that you need to take time to find out what He wants: His purpose, plans and desires for your life. Your pursuits, desires, goals and targets in life must align with His heartbeat and vision to reach the entire world with the Gospel. That’s what you must live for. That’s what it means to be a Christian. FURTHER STUDY: COLOSSIANS 3:1-3; 1 TIMOTHY 4:2
