THE CHURCH BAPTISM Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:16 Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. The three main characters: 1. Jesus Christ - The Commissioner 2. Apostles - The Missionaries 3. Nations (People) - The Mission field. The order of command: 1. Teaching them the nation (people) to observe and follow the Apostles who were commanded first by Jesus to preach and to baptize. Luke 10:16 - He that heareth you(Apostles) heareth me(Jesus); and he that despiseth you(Apostles) despiseth me(Jesus); and he that despiseth me despiseth him(God) that sent me. 2. A through channeling process be observed: Jesus Christ -- Apostles – Nations (we people). Not to choose whom we obey first. Q. What is the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost as commanded for baptism? First -we know that the name of the Father was given to the son. Father and the son has one name. John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world:…” Second – Jesus was the given name from the father to the Son. Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Third –Jesus is the name of the Holy Ghost (SPIRIT) 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Here we know that the Lord and the Spirit are one. If we know the Lord we know also the Spirit, for they are one. Acts 9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: So therefore, Jesus is the name of the Holy Ghost(SPIRIT=LORD). The Acts of obedient of the Apostles. 1. Acts 10:1-2 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. (Cornelius and his household were all religious) but not yet forgiven. Acts 10:43,48- They were all baptized in Jesus name. Born Again experience. Paul was also a Pharisees (so religious and devoted man with zeal), but born again in Jesus name. Nicodimus, Paul and Cornelius and the Jews at Pentecost were all born again in water and of the Spirit. How about you? Hebrew 2:3, How shall we escape (the wrath of God Rev. 16), if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Amos 4:12- Prepare to meet thy God. BRITANICA ENCYCLO. – The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son & Holy Ghost by Catholic Church in the second century. 11th Edition, Vol 3, page 365-366. BRITANICA ENCYCLO. – Everywhere in the oldest sources it states that baptism took place in the name of Jesus Christ. Vol. 3, page 82. CANNEY ENCYCLO. OF REL. – The early church always baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus until development of Trinity Doctrine in 2nd century. Page 53. CATHOLIC ENCYCLO. – Here the Catholics acknowledged that baptism was changed by the Catholic Church. Vol. 2, Page 263. HASTINGS ENCYCLO. OF REL. – Christian Baptism was administered using the words, IN THE NAME OF JESUS. Vol. 2, Page 377. The use of a Trinitarian formula of any sort was not suggested in early Church History. Vol. 2, Page 378. Baptism was always in name of the Lord Jesus until time of Justin Martyr when Triune formula used. Vol. 2, Page 389. CATHOLIC ENCYCLO. – Justin Martyr was one of the early Fathers of the Roman Catholic Church. Vol. 8 HASTINGS ENCYCLO. OF REL. – Name was an ancient synonym for person. Payment was always made in name of some person referring to ownership. Therefore one being baptized in Jesus name became his personal property. Ye are Christs. Vol. 2, Page 377 on Acts 2:38.
