THE COMING BLESSING “Fear not, Abram! Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. Just so,” he added, “shall your descendants be. To your descendants I give this land.” – Genesis 15:1, 5, 18 “One caramel afogato for George!” (That’s my favorite drink at Starbucks. What’s in it? Uhhhmmm, sorry, a fogat, o… he, he.) In coffee shops, they take your name and write it on the cup where your drink will be. Sometimes it takes a while but we know we’ll get it soon enough. And we know it’s ours because they call out our name. In the verse above, God was promising a man close to 100 years old and a barren wife that he would have countless descendants and would possess a land currently owned by the Pharaoh. Although unbelievable, I imagine Abraham waiting for the fulfillment of this promise with excitement. And when he saw it coming to pass, I wonder if he remembered that God made sure to mention his name, “Abraham,” when He spoke it. It took a long time before I found the love of my life. But several years ago, when I had just begun courting the girl of my dreams, I made a leap of faith. I wrote down on my dream list that I would one day marry Dinah Chikiamco. Three and a half years later, I walked out of our parish holding in my hand Mrs. George Gabriel, the answer to my prayer. God gave me what I asked for… and He even put my name on it. George Tolentino Gabriel (george.svp@gmail) Reflection: Are you waiting for a blessing? Maybe God is still preparing it for you. It’s coming soon. Give me patience, faith and gratitude for when my blessing comes. By:kerygma family
