THE CONCISE OXFORD DICTIONARY OF CURRENT ENGLISH PROPHESY - speak as a prophet PROPHET - inspired ( divinely influenced )teacher, revealer or interpreter of Gods will. Hence, prophecy is the divinely influenced teachings, revelation or interpretation of Gods will. Thats what the Bible is. This was the primary function of a prophet. So, whats a prophets job? Ephesians 4 - 11 It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God—a mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ’s full stature. 14 So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes. The job of a prophet, as well as evangelists, apostles (back then )and pastor- teacher is to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God—a mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ’s full stature. Compare this to what obtains today: some so-called prophets and evangelists are interested in the opposite! They dont help! people come to a unity of faith and KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE SON OF GOD - but are interested in foretelling events, telling people what they would like to hear! Anyone doing such is operating by what spirit? Certainly, not Gods spirit, as God has shown us clearly what their job is
