THE CONFEDERATION OF PROGRESSIVE TRADE UNIONS (DISK) SERVES NOTICE AGAINST FASCISM : “WE SHALL CALL A HALT TO ALL LABOR IF THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CALL A HALT THEIR ACTIONS” The Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DISK) warns you against fascism! DISK has evaluated the latest news about the protests that started to protect Gezi Park and then spread all over the country. The Chairman of the executive board of DISK has called on its Council of Administration for an urgent meeting to take place tomorrow. The Council of Administration will be drafting a program to put the declaration into effect. To begin with, declarations for serving notice against the Justice and Development Party of Turkey (AKP) will be read to the public at workplaces and open spaces today. (Tuesday, June 4, 2013) From this Wednesday onwards, protests against the fascism of AKP will be extended and carried on. *** Declaration of the DISK Board of Management: We shall call a halt to labor if the government will not halt their own actions! The government of the AKP is turning the whole country into a war zone only for the benefit of capital. The government is attempting to violently suppress an uprising that started in opposition to sacrificing the last significant green area in Taksim for an undesirable project. This vulgar display of power of AKP has caused the protests to spread all over the country. The people of Turkey have shown that not every word of Prime Minister Erdogan will be accepted as an order. They have also proved that violence is not a means of forcing people to give up having their own minds. On the other hand, Tayyip Erdogan is a prime minister who has drowned his own people under tear gas bombs, who has tortured and tormented them in the streets, who has crippled and killed them. Now, the government’s senseless behavior in meeting all the demands with violence has become uncontrollable. As a part of the responsibility we have for our country, we call on Tayyip Erdogan and the government of AKP to meet the conditions of protest: · It must be officially declared that Taksim Gezi Park will stay a park. · Whoever is responsible for ordering and engaging in violence against the people should pay the historical price and resign. · The use of tear gas bombs should be banned. · It must be announced that no investigation will be conducted against the people under arrest, and whoever is responsible for the unjust treatments must apologize to public. · The ban for meetings and protests in all areas of Turkey, including Taksim, should be lifted. These are our specific conditions. Violence against these protesters are illegal. In Erdogan’s own words, “The government that persecutes its own people is already overthrown.” In the event that the government refuses to pay attention to its people and these ongoing conditions, we pledge our word to listen to the people’s voice rising from the boulevards. Starting now, and continuing until a response is offered, we are warning the government and calling for a halt all labor. We call upon all housewives, shopkeepers, students, other youth and the unemployed for their support. Source: disk.org.tr/default.asp?Page=Content&ContentId=1529
