THE COUNTDOWN IS ON! NOAAs newest spacecraft is readying for launch in mid-January. DSCOVR -- or Deep Space Climate Observatory -- will give NOAAs space weather forecasters more reliable measurements of solar wind speed and improve their ability to monitor harmful solar activity: noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2014/20141218_DSCOVR.html DSCOVR is replacing an aging research satellite being used to warn of space weather impacts to Earth.
