THE CRAWFORD WATCH: Update Many Thanks to all of you who have inquired about my boys condition. The good news is the ACL surgery went well; the bad news is, well… Youd think that when they were handing out bad luck, he got back in line a second time. his first visit to physical therapy this past Friday, the therapist was alarmed by the puffiness in his knee (and the fact that he had had 102° fever the previous night), and called in one of the medical team for an assessment. Out of an abundance of caution, they decided to send them to the ER to make sure he didnt have some sort of systemic bacterial infection. Good news is, no infection. Bad news is, it took seven hours in the ER to determine this. Follow-up visit today (Saturday): good news, no bacterial infection. Bad news: pain in his calf and ankle led medical team, out of an abundance of caution, send him back to the ER for an ultrasound to determine whether he had a blood clot. Good news: no blood clot. Bad news, part two: it took seven hours to determine this. Those of you who know Crawford can confirm what a trouper he is but a cumulative 14 hours in the ER in one weekend cramped in a room reminiscent of the Hanoi Hilton would break anyones spirit, and his was certainly bent if not broken. But the deepest pit of hell for him was the fairly routine but for him, traumatic experience of having fluid withdrawn from his surgically repaired knee – –TWICE-- an inevitable procedure whose necessity makes it no less Torquemadian. in the end, I think he was most disappointed by the probability he wont be able to go back to school on Monday.
