THE DANGER OF FORGETTING GOD The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Psalm 9:17 Now consider this, ye forget God.. Psalm 50:22a The writer knew the danger of eliminating God from public and personal consciousness. Such carelessness leads to damnation, both temporal and eternal. What characterizes those that forget the Lord? First: There is no praise of God in daily conversation (Psa. 9:1), I will praise thee O LORD, with my whole heart;... Second: There is no recognition that all blessings come from God (Psa. 9:1b), I will shew forth all thy marvelous works. Third: There is no sense of final accountability to God (Psa. 9:4,7,8), ..thou satest in the throne judging right..he hath righteousness, eh shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. Fourth: There is no dependency upon God for ultimate protection (Psa. 9:9), The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Fifth: There is a lack of understanding that we have caused our dilemma by our disobedience (Psa. 9:15), The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made.. Sixth: There is a sense of self-exaltation regarding personal achievements )Psa. 9:20), Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah. In Ecclesiastes, Solomon used a word to describe the life which ignores God-vanity (emptiness). Retain God and live, forget God and die!
