THE DAY OF JUDGMENT Introduction It is a sobering thought that one must give account. Even in this life, responsibility entrusted often carries an obligation to account for the way it was discharged. God also speaks of a final day of reckoning, when He will thoroughly open and expose all the words, deeds and thoughts of our lives. Body I. The fact of judgment. A. God has appointed a day to judge the world (Acts 17:30, 31). B. It is appointed for man to die, then will come the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). II. Who will be present? A. The world will be judged (Acts 17:31). B. We Christians will be present (II Corinthians 5:9-11). C. All men will be present (Revelation 20:11ff). III. Who will preside as judge? A. The Son of God will be judge (John 5:22, 27). B. God has assured us of this by raising Jesus from the dead (Acts 17:30, 31). IV. How will He judge? A. In righteousness (Acts 17:31). He will be completely fair and no person can complain of injustice. B. Thoroughly. Nothing will be omitted (Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14). C. By His Word, now given to men (John 12:48). V. How can I prepare for judgment? A. By repenting and turning to God (Acts 17:31). B. By making it my constant aim to please Christ (II Corinthians 5:9-11). C. By believing on the Son throughout life (John 5:24). VI. The Christians hope in judgment. A. We may have boldness and not fear (I John 4:17, 18). B. We may expect to be saved, through faith in Jesus (John 3:16-19). C. We will not be condemned if we remain faithful (John 5:22-24). There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Conclusion Judgment is certain, for every person, by Christ. It will be in justice, according to Gods standard. If we believe in Jesus now, are joined to him in baptism, and continue trusting in Him, we will not be condemned. We should not have fear, therefore, but love, as we already know of Gods love for us and the verdict He has already passed on those in Christ. Quadjo Opoku Sarkodie
