THE DAYS THAT REIGN The days that reign upon my Land and never seem to have their end Unholy in their lengthened span breed brooding harm to all True Men Tyrants rise like thunderclouds full of storm and constant strife Free Men fear to speak aloud the despot’s law his new Long Knife Wielded in the hands of lust who long to greedy power hold Turning rule against the Just with craft and plot to rake the Bold They drench with noise and cunning lies upon the Land their cloaked intent They speak in squares, implore the skies but to their guile they’re ever bent Slumbering men still see no harm of lawless seed-clouds in their deeds Naïver though those yet so charmed by words wrapped round them they still heed The Citizen become the slave the Servant now become the king T’was never good and always grave to wrong what’s right with lesser things For government is but a pact that Fair Men make to keep all free For by their Word they are intact or ruin rules their apathy When government corruption swells when seats of power take up arms Against the People to impel the People must heed all alarms No man above those whom he serves should claim sole power to himself For vice by such does grow reserves That breed contempt within itself When men seek power at all cost when governments spawn tyranny All virtue has the leader lost and law is naught but dead decree The People then must rise in force take back from them what they have seized Let fearless men then plot the course let none say, “tyrant, be appeased!” For governments that reign like storms to rage upon Lands made free-born Have got to power misinformed Free Men will not with chains adorn Their native lives, their children’s hope the soil and blood they call their own Beware you tyrant of your scope your government will soon atone… Jack
