THE DECLARATION OF ISLAMIC CALIPHATE BY BOKO HARAM: a treasonable - TopicsExpress

THE DECLARATION OF ISLAMIC CALIPHATE BY BOKO HARAM: a treasonable act of secession since Jamaatu Ahlis Sunna LiddaAwati Wal-Jihad became more violent, peace has remained a scarce commodity for Nigerians. more disturbing is the rising threat being posed by the group against the sovereignty of Nigeria as a state. the fons et origo of the crises is beyond the scope of this piece. in a 52 minute video obtained by the Agence France-Presse (AFP) on sunday 24 August, 2014, the leader of the terrorist group; Abubakar Shekau declared: thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in the town of Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic Caliphate . . . by the grace of Allah, we will not leave the town. we have come to stay. the above declaration of Gwoza as part of the Islamic Caliphate can best be described as a treasonable act of secession and a sardonic attack on the sovereignty of the Nigerian state over its territory. it is tantamount to creating a country from Nigeria. it reveals how clearly weak and exposed the Nigerian state is to somany threats capable of liquidating its sovereignty. this must not be allowed to come to reality. sovereignty numbers among the vital elements that constitute the heart beat of any state. consequently, its protection is a sine qua non for the survival of the state. however, a proper juxtaposition of the aforestated need and the recent security happenings in the country tend to suggest that the supreme power of Nigeria over its territory is gradually growing weak by the day and if caution is still thrown to the wind, we may be left with no option than to have a taste of what somalia, syria, Iraq amongst other states are going through. a caliphate is the territorial jurisdiction of a caliph. if nothing is done to effectively rubish the above declaration, the implication is that a larger Islamic caliphate would soon emerge and Shekau invatiably becomes the almighty caliph. imagine being a subject of Shekau rulership. while one is not being pessimistic here, the nucleus of my submission is that with Jamatu ahlis Sunna LiddaAwati Wal-Jihad (boko haram) seemingly moving closer than ever towards the realization of its goal of carving out a strict Islamic state across Nothern Nigeria, culpability is that of the Nigerian government, and if nothing serios and urgent is done to restore the status quo, we should expect more injurious surprises from Shekau and his army. To end, it is apt to posit that the gargantuan challenge being thrown to the nigerian state by boko haram requires a more gargantuan resistance and approach by the government through the manning of strategic security institutions with the best apparatchik that posses the needed je ne sais quoi to torpedo the deadly ship conveying Shekau and his disciples. Allah shi kyauta!
