THE DEMOCRACY IN PAKISTAN I believe that the democracy ( being labeled as the best type of government) does not have all the ingredients to solve the problems of Pakistan. (The people of Pakistan are unique in history and therefore have some instincts very different than other races-nations of the globe. We therefore will have to ponder and evolve something different for ourselves). The recent democratic drama in Pakistan is the trial of PM. My following observations will explain the above statement:-The famous article 6 of the holy constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan declares traitor to those who go against the articles of the constitution. PM action of 03 Nov 2007 was treason in respect of constitution, because the judges were stopped from functioning. On the same logic, why the placement of any officer on OSD is not treason? The supreme court is the most holy court of a country and its decisions are final – to be obeyed by all, then why the executives ( read politicians in power ) are not declared traitors for not obeying. Is the constitution only holy for the Armed forces? Others- the civilians are free to read and amend as they wish the articles of constitution because its their birth right and they are the framers of the law. Then I believe that history does not agree with this argument. For example the Englishmen forced the laws upon the people of India through the power of gun. The constitution does not allow loot, plunder and vandalism then why the people in assembly during last five years shall not be trailed for treason? The national debt has been doubled during last five years as compared to last 60 years. In the last sixty years the nation has taken various debts for various reasons, however the some of the fruits (mostly not during democratic rules) are Terbela and Mangle dams, KANUPP, motorway, IPPs. In the last five years can one name any worthwhile projects as above? If not, then why this shall also not be considered treason? (Has they contested elections with such mandate to burden us and our future generation). The PM is solely responsible for the act. Has he been riding a horse and wielding a sword to make everybody obey? Or has he been driving a tank through all the organs of state? Were there an assembly and the executive of the country at the helms of affairs, and yes there was one then why are they the holy cows? ( because they are civilians and its their birth right to sway from dictator ship to democracy for the greater cause of national interest and this does not tantamount to treason). PM (was president only on 27 Dec 2007) is responsible for the killing of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. PM was not the chief executive of the country neither the Army was in action that day. But he shall be tried for her killing. Good, but what about the greatest democratic leader Z A Bhutto? It was a judicial killing. He may have ordered his subordinates but he was not behind the gun. And PM is responsible because he was directly behind the gun hiding on a tree in Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi, ( its funny). Ok then he may have ordered President Bush to do the act ( it’s funny too). Ok then he may have ordered Taliban ( Hakimullah Mehsud). ( its also funny). Ok, Ok this is my last, he is responsible because he is a Retired General of Pakistan Army and a dictator ( Hey! he was voted to be president (in uniform) by an assembly and was allowed by the most honourable court: shut up!!! they were honourable civilian politicians and honourable judges-gods on earth and cannot err; and its their birth right to sway and if you persist with this attitude against the honorable lords of the country, you will tantamount to be a traitor for the cause of greater national interest.) I now understand the wisdom of our political elite: DEMOCRACY IS THE BEST REVENGE!!
