THE DEUCE OF SPADES 2014 AWARD TOUR: TALES FROM THE ROAD - Day 88 - TopicsExpress

THE DEUCE OF SPADES 2014 AWARD TOUR: TALES FROM THE ROAD - Day 88 - Encore!! Back by popular demand, DEUCE OF SPADES was to be screened again on the last day of the Laughlin International Film Festival. I invited Larry and his wife Terri to the morning brunch and filmmakers panel that was to take place that very morning at the Tropicana Hotel. It was really cool. Good food, interesting stories shared by the filmmakers sitting up on stage... And those free mimosas :P... Each story did nothing but confirm what I already knew: Self distribution is the way to go for the small indies, the minute you sign with a distribution company, you can kiss income from your hard work goodbye. A few mimosas later (hips!) I was quite happy about the path I had instinctively chosen :). It was not the easier way to travel, but it was the smarter way to go. After the brunch, Larry and Terri left and I mozied to the theater to gander at other filmmakers work. It was interesting to see how other indies approach their scenes, camera work, scoring, lighting, etc etc... None of the pieces I saw that day had the same look, feel or production value as my film. By production value we refer to the assets of a film, such as the number of locations, props, wardrobe, size of cast, number of extras etc etc... Period films, by definition, have high production value and DEUCE OF SPADES certainly came across as standing in a class all of its own. 5PM rolled (in) and so did the film. Smaller audience, but a very responsive one. The Q&A session was fun, with lots of interesting questions. A few DVDs signing later, it was time to pack it up and head home. I was relieved that the being in two places at the same time ordeal was now behind me and my stress levels were about to return to normal LOL. I promised myself I would try to catch up on repairs, orders and emails (and sleep LOL) in the next few days and then devote the last few days left in Lake Havasu, to cruising around the area and exploring... You all know how much I like sharing with you all the cool places to see, and I promise you wont be disappointed by my next few posts ;)... Life on the road, never a dull moment (except when you are FINALLY sleeping Zzzzzzz ;) ) !
