THE DILEMMA OF TWO PREGNANT MARES... I answered a phone call a few weeks ago asking if the rescue would take these two pregnant mares. They had belonged to a fellow that owned an Andalusian stallion which the mares were housed with. Since he didnt speak any English, not much is known about them other than they appear to be young; one report said the bay mare was only 2 years, another says she is closer to the paint mare at 5 years. They are currently being fostered at our Toppenish orphanage and I had planned to bring them to our rescue in Enumclaw in the near future. I am torn about adopting them out while pregnant simply because weve seen where people will foal them out and then dump the mares back into the system or call us to come get them. Their foals should be Azteca, by virtue of their breeding. I will consider adopting them out for a permanent adoption with a signed contract giving the rescue the right to take them back if they do not work out or encounter difficulties. If the mares come back to the rescue, so do their foals! I will ask Melody Williams LeBeau to update us on their progress and personalities. If you are seriously interested, can provide training and have the experience to handle what comes, please contact me. If all you want is the foals, please dont. Thank you!
