THE DOG WHISPERER’S FOUNDATION, THE CESAR MILAN FOUNDATION, ENDORSES PUPPYCIDE DOCUMENTARY Why do you think the number of such incidents is increasing? As Ledy VanKavage from Best Friends Animal Society put it — over the last 50 years dogs have moved from the barnyard to the backyard to the bedroom, and police training and policies have not evolved with them. That is part of it, but also due to various social trends (terrorism, the drug war, the advent of SWAT) police now play an expanded role in our lives. So the two, dogs and cops, are simply coming into contact at a much higher rate. The sad fact is we know puppycides are happening way more than they are reported on in the news. Even local activists we’ve filmed who are on the lookout for these incidents tell us that they happen and the police never report it or tell them. Cindy, in our trailer, is active in Austin, Texas and told us that in a period when five puppycides were reported by local news, 22 took place that received no attention. Part of our documentary includes submitting Freedom of Information Act requests to all major police jurisdictions across the US to assemble their firearm discharge records to show how truly epidemic this practice is.
