THE DOUBLE PORTION, A HARD THING- 2 Kings 2:9-10- 9When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you. And Elisha said, Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me. 10He said, You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so. We have often read this scripture with the mindset that it was a hard thing because of the AMOUNT of power or anointing that Elisha was asking for but that is not the truth. It was a hard thing because he was asking for a sonship inheritance blessing that was reserved for the eldest sons according to the customs of Israel. The hard thing was the ENDURANCE and covenant commitment that it would take for him to FINISH the COURSE as a son. This is why Elijah told him that IF he was there when he was taken up he would get the double portion. The IMPARTATION was contingent upon the relationship. Deut. 21:17-But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his. A firstborn son was entitled to receive twice the inheritance of that of a father’s other sons, in addition to the right of succession. The DEEPEST impartation (the double portion) is reserved for Sons & Daughters- Paul longed to see His Spiritual Children to: IMPART- Pour out, Equip (Rom. 1:11) 1 Cor. 4:17- For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church. A true SON values relationship ABOVE opportunity. Every spiritual relationship & assignment carries a reward. The EMERGING move will VALUE- Spiritual relationships, SONS & DAUGHTERS. God is raising up a FATHERING house. Sons & daughters must pursue fathers & mothers. They must sow honor. Ministers must VALUE the mantle of Fathering & Mothering—this is a PARADIGM shift
