THE FAT MAN v THE MOUNTAIN – THE CLOCK IS TICKING With just under 2 weeks to go before I tackle the behemoth that is Croagh Patrick, I unfortunately made an aberration in my last post. I neglected to mention 3 of my travelling party, including my own brother!!!! I put this down to sheer stress, as I cannot deny the expectation on my slim shoulders at present is nothing short of gargantuan. I have also included a profile of myself, as I am the Leader of this merry band, and they all look up to me as some kind of Deity. It is a burden that I must carry. Kevin Hickey – AKA “The Fat Man” – Age Immortal Likes – Little House on the Prairie, Bagpuss, Mr. Men, Bod. Dislikes – Exercise, Fit people, Weight watchers, Low calorie food. Bob Byrne - AKA “The Islamist” Age 45. A man of questionable political leanings. Our Bob is a mountain of useless information. If you ever need to know the capital of Oman, Bob knows it. It’s Muscat for all you lovers of geography out there. (I had to check that out!!) Tom Conroy - AKA “The Adopted” Age 25. Surprisingly tall for a Conroy. I am calling for a DNA test here. The younger, better looking, more intelligent brother of Eddie Conroy Philip Hickey – AKA “The Quiet Man” – Age 50. Non-drinker. Non-Smoker. He cannot surely be my brother? Loaded, so will be landed with the drink’s bill afterwards. Today was a landmark day. Filming started on “Broke Back Hill (No cure for softness)”. The protagonist, (i.e. me) will attempt to portray to the audience (i.e. you) what it takes to conquer your fears and become an elite athlete. Being the humble man that I am, I hope to give the viewers an insight into the intense regime I am currently putting my body through in order to achieve my ultimate goal of climbing Croagh Patrick. I have passed the script onto The Irish Film Classification Board and they unsurprisingly gave it a ‘G’ cert, making it suitable for all ages. Once editing and censoring have been completed, the film is due for general release within the week. Without wishing to sound somewhat arrogant, I personally would compare it to Ben Hur. It promises to be an Oscar winning global phenomenon. PS – Don’t forget Jack and Jill. They need your support. PPS – This post, and all of them, is dedicated to my darling daughter Amber, who turns 7 tomorrow. She is the light of my life and no words can describe the love I feel for her.
