THE FEAR: MADIBA MEMOIRS AND THE SPIRIT OF GIVING GIFTS THAT GIVE BACK Our Fearless Edition tagged the “Madiba Memoirs” taking risks, confronting our greatest fears and daring to do things we could not get funding for and most especially saving lives without lives getting involved. Every Journey we embark on in life is a risk and nothing is certain. Anyone’s Life is a risk and nothing is certain. Anyone’s life can change in a dime, and yet this seems especially true for Nelson Mandela, who invariably inhabits numerous roles at the same time. I am personally proud of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s First Black President, the ex-boxer, lawyer, and prisoner no 46664 who paved the way to racial reconciliation with well-chosen gesture of forgiveness. Sometimes, the unexpected reminds us of our most inspiring expectation for ourselves and others. He lunched with the prosecutor, who sent him to jail, sang the apartheid- era Afrikaans anthem at his inauguration, and travelled hundreds of miles to have tea with widow of Hendrick Verwoerd, the prime minister at the time he was imprisoned. Mandela also helped seal his country’s bid to become the first in Africa to host the world cup. Most Public Spirited institutions or individuals are yet to conquer the fear of having to give the Gift that give Back, or seeking Return in Investment for Charity Initiatives “What is in need for me” or having to look back at their lives without regrets “What did I do for my community, my state, my country or the world at large”? not what did my country do for me? Mandela is a pure example of an iconic African leader who liberated Africa. As we honor those who swim against the current of giving back without seeking attention to themselves, we do pride ourselves with the Elite Humanitarian Hall of Fame, constant enthusiasm, we all worked towards the same purpose of “Giving Gifts that Give Back” despite the Uncertainties. I feel that our long collaboration with the Charity Initiatives: Holy Family Home for the Elderly, Bethesda Home for the Blind, Leonard Cheshire Home of the Handicapped, Heritage Homes, Pacelli School of the Blind, Wesley School of the Hearing Impaired, Save Funmi Campaign, Save Debbie, Save OJB Campaign, Save Ngozi Nwosu Campaign, Save Pwashikai Nideno (Our Pilot Project), Patrick Language & Speech Centre, Bone Cancer Patient, Joseph Olorunlagbara and the Association of the Disabled in Ghana during the Africa Youth and Governance Conference in Ghana has brought us to a place where our recipients such as Michael Collins, Tosin Bucknor, Ronke Apampa, Julius Agwu, Stella Damasus, Innocent Idibia, Funmi Iyanda, Halima Abubakar, Steve Onu, Abimbola Fashola, Dupe Killa Kafidipe, Igho Sanomi, Gerald Azonobo Newton Jibunoh and creating a working relationship with various institutions and initiatives with similar ideology such as the Lamboginny Say No to Crime, The Future Project, Save Laura Campaign (CKN Foundation) , Bake for Change, KUTH Foundation, Gidi Traffic, Oaken Event, Pink Pearl Foundation, Standard Chartered Bank, Channels Television, and Tony Elumelu Foundation. Where our point of views of adding, “The Fun in Fundraising” is delightfully in sync. Through our work together, Charity Lounge has transcends Pressing issues and are not ready to quit. From our super volunteers, media partners and sponsors both in kind and financial (Their Names are written on the sands of time) we all have one thing in common; like you and I, they have doubts, but they take risks despites their fears, Wetin Charity dey do Sef? This Season celebrates them who have doubts and fears in entrusting their resources to Non Profit Initiatives, who are not afraid to look back, and give gifts that give back. Charity Lounge does not take credits for his social good but this are the people who deserve the crown, if they are not fit for this edition, I don’t know who is, if they don’t take care of us too, who will. In the words of our Past Recipient of the Elite Humanitarian Hall of Fame, Ronke Apampa, “As we mourn Madiba, Please take time to reflect, are you fulfilling destiny? At the end, will you truly rest in peace, Are you a Change maker or Trouble Maker, Pause & Think!!” Lastly, our extraordinaire sponsor, the Adamawa State Government, the American University of Nigeria and defunct Next Newspaper in 2011 during our Save Pwashikai Campaign, in 2012, Don Jazzy for supporting the maiden edition in Lagos, Halima Abubakar for supporting us twice in a roll, Seun Oloketuyi for drawing the attention of Tonto Dikeh & Rukky Sanda for Save Funmi Campaign, (she eventually died, she personally called on her return and asked that I personally thank them both) From the venue that hosted us from Terra Kulture, Oriental Hotel, Pelaruz Café, British Council and the association we had with Industry Nite, the Creative Entrepreneur Association and Ariyike’s Best of Both World Networking Event. The Wow Divas for Rewarding our Pitch Presentation in acquiring a Solution Space with N650, 000 but our dreams were cut short by a property fraudster but in our words we must be fearless and deliver. Dr. Oladele Olarotimi for his sponsorship to the African Youth and Governance Conference in Ghana (My First International Trip) Standing Ovation for Steve Onu for finding me worthy to be nominated and serve as the 2013 Recipient of the United Nations Peace Ambassador alongside heavy weights as the Youngest Recipient.
