THE FIG TREE PROPHECY--(WE ARE LIVING IN THE FINALE DAYS) Fig trees are used in biblical context to describe the nation of Israel. Understanding the significance of the fig tree is key to understanding the end times. Lets take a look at what Jesus Himself taught us about the fig tree: 6 He also spoke this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?’ 8 But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that[a] you can cut it down.’” Luke 13 Jesus in this parable is describing the nation of Israel and how they dont know that their messiah is with them. They do not understand the times nor this great blessing. Their eyes are only focused on what they want, not what God wants. Jesus is saying, I have observed Israel for three years. John was here telling them I was coming and when I showed up they still deny me. They are rebellious and have made themselves useless, so I will cut them off. But a little more time is given. God is faithful even when we are not. Later we find Jesus encounter another situation with a fig tree: 18 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away. Matt 21 This event happened shortly before His death. The end of His ministry has arrived and He looks to see if the fig tree has now produced any fruit. But there is none to be found and Jesus curses the fig tree. We know that the fig tree is Israel and in 70 AD and again in 135 AD Israel was completely destroyed. The temple was torn down and the people were scattered. The rain stopped falling and the land became a desolate waste area. Even the name was changed of that territory by the Roman leader. Israel was no more! Shortly before Jesus was sentenced to death He prophesied the destruction of the temple (Matt 24:2.) The disciples ask Him when will these things occur along with your coming at the end of the age. Again Jesus talks about the fig tree. He tells us to watch for the restoration of Israel: 32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it[d] is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Matt 24 Jesus tells us the major sign to look for (along with various earthquakes, wars and rumors of wars, famine, pestilence and false christs) is the restoration of Israel. He goes on to add that the generation that sees this will not pass away before He returns. Incredibly after almost 2000 yrs Israel was restored to a nation in 1948. The significance of that is the fulfillment of prophecy; The fig tree has become tender and putting forth leaves. Jesus says, Summer is near when this occurs. So when you see Israel restored know, the end is near as a guarantee. A generation in biblical terms is a persons life span that is roughly 70-80 yrs. That would put the time frame for His return around 2018-2028. He said no one will know the day or the hour but He said clearly we should know the season and it is upon us. Paul wrote: But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thess 5 He clearly says that we will know the season of His return and that it wont be a surprise. He goes on to say, let us watch and be sober. We are in this time my friends. I cannot encourage you enough to seek your Father whole heartily and ask Him to prepare you for the things to come. Surrender all to Him because He is worthy and you are called to this. We have this great opportunity to serve God in the final harvest. Lets give Him everything we got!
