THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT—GENTLENESS The Lords servant must not strive, but be gentle towards all... forbearing. — 2Timothy 2:24. Of all the fruits of the Spirit this one is very difficult to understand and recognize because it has so many counterfeits. Counterfeits look like the real thing and can be well camouflaged fooling many even the wise. You see Some people are naturally laid back and easy-going, lacking energy and ambition, inwardly at heart very cowardly, and in spirit can actually be rotten and mean at their core. Many people are often characterized by a moral weakness and decrepitude that make it easy for them to yield to anything rather than contesting in the physical, spiritual, or intellectual arena. But concerning the fruit of gentleness there must be the consciousness of a considerable reserve of force. The gentleness we see in God is combined with His attribute of omnipotence. The movements that were brought forth through creation were Powerful in display but came from the lips of a God that in His inner being and through His Omnipotence were Gentle in detail. At no time was God anxious during creation just the opposite...it was the rolling of words off the tongue of the gentle commands of God that spun the universe into existence...He never Raised His Voice yet He never repeated Himself! He spoke...it happened! If a child is trying to lift or carry something extremely heavy, there will be a great thud when he reaches the end of his job, and drops the heavy burden upon the ground. The young boys strength is so completely exhausted that he is glad to get rid of his heavy burden, anyhow, anyway, and at any cost. But when you take the same heavy burden and give it to a strong man to put upon his shoulders, and carries it the exact same distance, he puts it down quiet differently as it comes to rest gently, because the burden of the weight has not zapped his strength and has plenty of strength in reserve. It is the very prerogative of those who posses great enormous strength to be gentle when it suits them. We must be spiritually gentle with people in this world...not Weak nor Compromising but Gentle. God was and always is Gentle with us...Never Compromising and Never Weak! Therefore we should never forget that we are linked with an almighty Infinite God, and that all things are possible to you because they are possible for Him. However with great strength comes even greater responsibilities. There must also be a deep sense of mercy and pity for those who struggle and are spiritually weaker than oneself. We should as one who has been rescued help others to be rescued as well. In securing these types of rescues We must be tolerant and pitiful to those who abuse us, slander us, hate us, or have been embittered against us by disappointment. We must be Gentle with them for God was and is Gentle with us when we are hard to deal with. It must be our deepest desire to make allowances for such peoples, and always to be gently reasonable towards any rudeness and hatefulness of their bad behavior. They most assuredly lack the Gentleness we Desire that comes from the Spirit of God. Therefore, we bear gently with those who are out of the way and hard to deal with, because we also are aware of our own infirmity...and again, God dealt gently with us. It is also necessary that there should be a deep Patience with those who know not our God nor the Love He gives. Remember it takes no size to criticize...therefore before you elevate yourself above others as Spiritually Superior remember what God saved you from. You have not Arrived yet...you must remember Pride comes before a Fall! Our resentment against others should be always tempered by our remembrance of our own sins. Then and only then can we be Gentle as God intends us to be. PRAYER Our Father we come to you in the name of Jesus...our deepest desire is that we will be gentle, loving, forgiving, and patient with all those who are in and around our lives...we desire this because you showed all these things to us when we came before you. We admit that in times past our behaviour has not manifested all the fruits of the Spirit, or been full of the graciousness and gentleness of Christ. We Repent and ask You oh Lord to Forgive us, and enable us so to live that your grace and beauty may be radiated from our faces, may the tone of Your voice be in our speech, the gentleness of Your tread in our steps, the gentleness of Your touch in our hands, and the unselfishness of Your deeds in our lives....AMEN!
