THE GED NEEDED A STIMULUS SINCE 1993 AND ALBANY DID NOT PROVIDE IT CENTRAL ISLIP, BRENTWOOD, AND OTHER COMMUNITIES ON LONG ISLAND Take a look at this You Tube video youtu.be/hgFlVR3NsoA View eight minutes of Marvin Thompson, brother of Jam Master Jay of Run DMC and Robert Jackson, former NYC Chairman of the NYC Council Education Committee. This goes well beyond diversity. This is about helping immigrants of color, all immigrants. There is more to share and this time about GED. I never go back this far in history, but it would great to bring back the Good Old Days because GED is an integral part of workforce development and entry into college. In 1982 when White (Blanquitos thinking about Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo and if you know about her you know what I mean…she like Senator Ruben Diaz is from da Bronx) people controlled Brentwood, there were 47,120 diplomas issued in New York State. In 1992, there were 28,950 diplomas issued in New York State. In 2002, there were 25,084 diplomas issued in New York State. In 2012, there were 23,223 diplomas issued. The population that needs a GED has been almost 3 million throughout the last ten years. Surprisingly the new statistics have come out for 2013 recently indicating that 31,282 received diplomas in 2013 and the Finish the GED in New York which was started with additional funding to help people in the city take the test must have had a great impact as $250,000 more dollars were used. Bill de Blasio played a role in getting that done before becoming mayor. Just to give you a better idea of the old days, there were 46,960 in 1983, in 1984 there were 43,033, and in 1985 when I first started teaching in a GED program in NYC there were 42,272 diplomas issued that year. I would assume that residents of Brentwood who never had the opportunity to earn a high school diploma had their fair share of the diplomas and apparently earned more diplomas back then than they do today. I know that this sounds like a paid advertisement for someone running for office. Take a look at what has happened There is more to share and this time about GED.
