THE GERMAN EMBASSY IN CAIRO, 100COPIES + Clubcommission Berlin present: CAIRO BERLIN CLUB NACHT Celebration of 25 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall الدخول بالدعوات فقط INVITATIONS ONLY AMR 7A7A & SADAT & ALAA 50 DJ ABU ASHLEY Nathini van der Meer - Video Installation Opening DJ Set: DJ Hatem El Chiaty invitations only SADAT & ALAA 50 There is something utterly captivating about watching singer/MC Sadat performon stage. Maybe it’s his dizzying dance moves that ever so fluidly shift between the robotic motions of tecktonics, the whirling-waistlines of belly dancing, and just the right amount of hip-hoppin’, two-steps. Whether dancing or just straight spitting game into the mic, Sadat is visual-audio dynamite – he’s the kind of performer that consciously or unconsciously will have every listener in the room jumping to replicate his movements and the intonations of his lyrics. In the past couple years alone, Sadat has been booked for more international gigs that most others within his genre of mahraganat music. Traveling a long ways from his hometown of Salam City, Sadat has seen stages in countries all over Europe including, France, Switzerland, and Germany . At the same time, he’s collaborated with a wide spectrum of musicians Egypt’s underground sonic sphere from rapper MC Amin, to acoustic drummers/instrumentalists . His versatility, dynamism, and power-punching lyrical capabilities are oftentimes prolific and remarkably relatable to most Egyptian youth. Sadat is a musical chameleon able to change his skin with each new music collaboration – he keeps his listeners on their toes, not only because his music is infectious, but more so because he is a musical mouthpiece for his generation. Abu Ashley Abu Ashleygrew was born in Port Said, grew up in New York and made his way up the DJ ranks through the caverns of some of the greatest dance venues in New York City. Through his residencies at Le Baron, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Le Bain, and TBA, Abu mastered the craft of moving a crowd and defining a vibe. Now settling in Berlin, Abu was drawn to the citys history of nightlife and creative-friendly atmosphere. Abu now works around the clock from his new Berlin studio, where he draws inspiration from the thriving house and techno culture that surrounds him. Nathini van der Meer NATHINI VAN DER MEER, whilst being doubtlessly fashionable, is not your average Berlin artist. Nathini is video artist, photographer and fashion designer. You won’t find her running up and down Berlins street analyzing the trendscape, much lesser participating in the endless exploitative intern cycles the fashion industry has to offer most newcomers. Frankly its rather hard to get a hold of her at all, since she is either buried in omni-medial projects in her Berlin studio, or out of town entirely travelling. Roadtripping by herself through Mexico, chasing Tornados in the US-Midwest, tattooing some band members in the back of their tour van on the way to San Francisco – you name it, she wrote it to us in some apologetic out-of-townemail from the other side of the globe. PANAL DISCUSSION: Mahmoud Refat, Lutz Leichsenring, Nathini Van der Meer, Abu Asley, SADAT Berlins music scene is connected and represented by two networks: Berlin Music Commission and Berlin Clubcommission. These networks support their members via sector-specific training, advisory services, PR and networking. The Clubcommission is the voice of Berlins club scene and event managers and, founded in 2000, is the first of its kind, housing 120 members, functioning independently from the Senate. All of the founding partners belong to the club and event industry, not representing the commercial nightlife scene, but represent a “music driven crowd that listens to electro, punk and alternative music. Lutz Leichsenring (35) is the press officer and board member of the Clubcommission Berlin. Lutz also happens to be a member of Berlin’s Chamber of Commerce and Musicboard, where he frequently votes on city development issues that serve to protect club areas affected by gentrification.
