THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST 'Here begins the gospel of Jesus Christ'. Mk 1:1 NEB The people who bring messages sometimes give credibility to the message that they bring.Sometimes they have no effect at all.And sometimes the content of a message may be questioned because the person bringing it lacks credibility. In one sense Jesus brought the message.He came and preached about the kingdom of God.Many of his parables showed the nature of that kingdom and how it worked,what its standards were,and how different that was to the religion of the day in Israel.But in another sense he was himself the gospel.All that he did,all that he said,and all that he was - spoke of God the Father and his kingly rule.The important thing for Christian disciples is to grasp that 'the gospel' is Jesus Christ.It is not a set of cliches.It is not a philosophy of life.It is not a disclosure about the end of the world.It is not a warning to scare people into being more devout,or to read their Bibles more and pray more.It focuses on Jesus.It is both the message that he communicated and the deeds that he did.He came - that is the gospel.He healed people - that is the gospel.He died,rose and evermore - that is the gospel.He lives to be with us evermore - that is the gospel.He saves sinners - that,too,is the gospel. Believe the gospel.Respond to Jesus Christ and let the life he came to share dominate your every step.Every day. Lord,thank you for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
