THE GREATEST 23 YEARS OF MY LIFE!! Wednesday August 20th represented our 23rd anniversary and I could not let the moment pass by without telling my beautiful wife Heather what an AMAZING person she is. She has literally been at Makenzies side for the entire time since the accident! Today marks Day #49 since the accident--Can you believe that it has already been 7 weeks since this trial began. Words do not even begin to express the gratitude that we feel to see the growth and progress that Makenzie experiences and demonstrates on a daily basis. It has only been 16 days since she woke up and now we can carry on conversations, laugh at her cute sense of humor, rejoice in the piano playing that she is still able to do, and humble ourselves at the extreme gratitude that each small brings to our hearts. Just so that everyone is up to date--Makenzie had her tracheostomy tube removed on Wednesday afternoon, and we are eagerly awaiting for the site to close so that her voice can continue to become stronger. If you havent heard Makenzie sing yet you are in for a real treat! She had a repeat CT angiogram of the neck today in order to take another look at the c-spine, as well as the carotid dissection that she suffered during the original accident. We are awaiting those results and pray that they will be favorable so that her c-collar may be removed soon. The Acute Rehab facility has been amazing, and her therapists have been nothing short of heaven-sent! She gets along so well with each one of them, and they all inspire her to do better each day. Her anticipated discharge date from the facility (hopefully to come back to St. George) has been set for mid-September!! We are ecstatic to think that she may be home by her September 27th birthday!! The support for Makenzie has been overwhelming--remember how much I LOVE that word!! She loves to have Heather read the letters, posters, updates, posts, etc. from ALL of you!! Her inspiration comes from the many friends and loved ones who have been at her side, literally and figuratively, since Day #1! I am grateful that the next 23 years with my beautiful Heather will also involve my dear Makenzie. I have promised Heavenly Father that I will never take another day with my 6 children for granted! This Sunday at 11:00am I will get to hear Morgan deliver her talk after returning from Tampa, FL. It will be INCREDIBLE! My heart will be full, yet it will have one empty spot!! That will be the place where my love for Makenzie resides as I know she will not be there with us! I know she will be there in Spirit and I am so grateful to have her HERE!! Arent anniversaries just the BEST thing in the world??!!!!!! Love ya, Ryan and Heather
