THE GREATEST CALAMITY....THE DEATH OF NABI MUHAMMAD SAWS AND THE MASTER SPEECH BY SAYYIDINA ABU BAKR RA After the Prophet Muhammad SAWS breathed his final breath...his blessed head resting in the lap of his SAWS beloved and dear wife Aisha RA...the Final Prophet of Allah had completed his message perfectly...he SAWS was the seal of Prophethood...no more revelation would come to this earth after him.... Now Imagine the picture if you possibly can...imagine for a brief moment the sadness that overcame the city of Medina and its inhabitants. Imagine what must have been going through their minds....Muhammad SAWS had died... It is narrated that the Prophet SAWS said, If one of you is afflicted with a calamity, then let him remember his calamity by me (i.e., by my death); for indeed, it is the greatest of calamities. How true these words became...the Muslims were struck with a state of confusion and bewilderment. It cannot be! Muhammad has not died they said! Sayyidina Abu Bakr RA upon hearing the news did not talk to anybody and went straight to Aisha RAs house where the Holy Prophet SAWS body was lying. After taking permission he entered the house and kissed the Holy Face of Muhammad SAWS, tears rolling out of his eyes. Then he remarked, “May my parents be sacrificed for you. I swear by Allah that death will never come twice to you. You have tasted the death which was destined for you and now you will get no other.” He covered the Holy Body of the Prophet SAWS with a sheet and came to the Mosque. As mentioned before the news shocked the people of Madinah and the beloved companions RA were devastated. Sayyidina Umar Farooq RA was said to have fainted in shock on the news, such was the love he had, in other narrations it is mentioned that Sayyidina Umar RA was in such a state of shock he said that anyone who said Muhammad SAWS had died he will cut off his head!. Many believers still had the misconception that the Prophet SAWS would never leave. Upon entering the Mosque the closest companion Sayyidina Abu Bakr Siddique RA uttered the famous words noting the sensitivity and delicacy of the matter: “O People! If any one of you worshipped Muhammad SAWS he should bear in mind that Muhammad is dead. But those who worshipped Allah should know that He is Alive and will never die. He Sayyidina Abu Bakr RA then recited the verses from the Quran: Muhammad is a messenger, messengers have passed away before him. Will it be that, when he dies or is slain, you will turn back on your heels? He who turn back do not hurt Allah and Allah will reward the thankful (3,144) ALLAHU AKBAR!!! The address of Sayyidina Abu Bakr Siddique RA touched the hearts of the people. Sayyidina Umar RA also cooled down. Sayyidina Abdullah says, “It seemed that the verse of the Holy Quran to which Abu Bakr referred was just revealed, although we had recited it several times in the past” What a defining moment, what a defining speech, what a defining man! ALLAHU AKBAR!!!! It reminds one of the following verse of Quran with regards to the Hijra: “If you help him (Muhammad) not (it does not matter), for Allah did indeed help him when the disbelievers drove him out, the second of the two; when they (Muhammad and Abu Bakr) were in the cave, he said to his companion (Abu Bakr): ‘Be not sad (or afraid), surely, Allah is with us.’ (Holy Quran 9:40) Who else but Sayyidina Abu Bakr RA!
