THE HARDER THEY COME [Full Movie] Starring Jimmy Cliff (1972) This is for all my rudeboys, rudegals and music lovers Man.. what can I even say about this incredible film and its soundtrack? This is more or less the original model for the last 2 movies I posted (Juice & Babylon). The tale of a young charismatic rudeboy (Jimmy Cliff) who is struggling to earn a crust to support his family, taste for indulgence and upkeep of a rather fetching wardrobe. Young Ivan wont stop until he realizes his dreams of becoming a famous reggae artist ....... That is if the various demons of the life dont get the better of him first! One of the most important movies and soundtracks in music history which played an enormous role in delivering reggae music to the mainstream and portraying a peek into life for some in Jamaica. The UK has a rich history of the fusion and influence of West Indian in mainstream culture since the 50s and so even if you dont know anything about reggae the chances are you will be able to sing along to at least one of the songs from this film including the title theme. I wont tell you the names because I would love to hear reactions from first time viewers of this magnificent and beautiful bit of history. Is it life imitating art / is it art imitating life or do they play an inter-feeding symbiotic role like yin and yang?
