THE HAULIE MURPHY MEMORIAL CUP Yesterday to mark the one year anniversary of the passing of Haulie Murphy an exhibition match was played between the Glanworth u-17 team and their illustrious Kilworth Counterparts who are just coming off the back of a fantastic campaign where they brought county glory back home. I use the word exhibition as this was nothing short of one. The skill levels on show from both teams was just incredible for this time of the year. Some of the scores, stick work and interchanges were just simply outstanding. It really was a brilliant game of hurling. In the end Glanworth ran out winners but what a showcase both teams put on. There is no doubt that Haulie would have been immensely proud of the efforts of both teams in this absorbing contest. Everyone is aware of just how good this Glanworth team is and they were well able to back up their credentials yesterday and Im sure, like me, everyone in the club is looking forward to the commencement of the new season and watching the boys in action. A massive thank you to all who helped make yesterday morning a huge success. Thanks to the crowds who showed up - it was great to see so many new faces up at the pitch!! The level of work that the volunteers in this club put in on a now weekly basis mirrored the game we saw - it was an exhibition. Without these peoples hard work and efforts this club would not be half the club it is today so a massive Cheers to all involved again yesterday - The Corner Cut Sandwiches as usual did not disappoint!! Finally, we would like to thank the Murphy family for donating a fabulous trophy for the now annual memorial game to be played by u-16 teams of the village in the coming years. The family was on hand after the game to make the presentation to Aidan Walsh and the Glanworth team! Hope you have a great Monday, Take care!!
