THE HILL Ive taken many visitors to this hill in San Francisco to enjoy a 360 degree view of the city. My story always include how Jack and I hiked it early in our relationship when I told him about the sightings of a coyote on the hill. Its practically in our neighborhoods backyard but hes never climbed Bernal Hill until we did early one morning to catch a glimpse of the coyote. The hill is a great place to introduce the city. I often like to start with landscape and geography. Imagine the city as a square in a peninsula, Jack and I would tell visitors. From there, wed orient ourselves with the history of this City by the Bay from a 360 degree point of view to the present. Thats where the sand dunes used to be; the creek that used to be the largest body of water in the city; the bay the explorers mapped; where the settlers moved and the immigrants lived. This used to be a ranch. And that, over there, is where we live and how things are changing again... (Photo taken over the weekend when our niece Gina came to visit with her boyfriend David)
