THE HISTORY OF THE DINGO WARRIOR.....(By Mike Steele) ~This is quite and extensive, long drawn out piece, so if your curious about The Dingo Warrior youll love this! ~Coming off his teaming with Sting as The Blade Runners, Rock moved to World Class Championship Wrestling and became known as The Dingo Warrior. Warrior himself explained that someone had a dog or something in the back and it was a Dingo, someone suggested the name and the rest is history. Dingo debuted in late June 1986. For the next month, he faced many big names including Bruiser Brody and Kevin Von Erich. Heres a list of some of his earliest matches in World Class..... 6/30/86 Ft. DINGO vs TWO JOBBERS.....youtu.be/82PndMgKCp0 Future WWF Rival Rick Rude was one of Dingos first feuds in World Class. They squared off on August 11 1986, August 22 1986, August 29 1986 and on September 23 1986, they also engaged in arm wrestling contests. ~Dingo teamed a handful of times with Abdullah The Butcher to face the likes of the Von Erichs and Bruiser Brody. Two such battles took place on August 22 and August 25 1986. 8/22/86 Dallas Bruiser Brody & Lance Von Erich beat Dingo Warrior & Abdullah The Butcher dq 8/25/86 Ft. Worth Kevin Von Erich & Bruiser Brody vs Dingo Warrior & Abdullah The Butcher As well as the feud with Rude, he was put into tag teams. First teaming with a wrestler named Socko (Have A Nice Day?) in the World Class Tag Team Tournament. Here are the results of that tournament..... SEPTEMBER 1 1986-Fort Worth, TX: Convention Center: Labor Day Star Wars) FIRST ROUND Dingo Warrior & Socko defeated Tim Brooks & The Grappler (Len Denton) SECOND ROUND Dingo Warrior & Socko defeated Brian Adias & Scott Casey FINALS Lance Von Erich & Chris Adams defeated Dingo Warrior & Socko (Socko was pinned) ~Dingo Warrior and Rick Rude ended up forming a tag team.... OCTOBER 10 1986 Dingo Warrior and Rick Rude vs Kevin and Mike Von Erich ~The Dingo Warrior then briefly teamed with Steve Simpson for another shot at the tag belts...... OCTOBER 12 1986-Dallas, TX: 3rd Cotton Bowl Extravaganza WCCW Tag Champs Matt Borne & Buzz Sawyer defeated Dingo Warrior & Steve Simpson via DQ DINGO/STEVE SIMPSON INTERVIEW.....youtube/watch?v=IyuOS0Wrjak ~On October 27 1986 Dingo Warrior was victorious in a 20 man battle royal. ~The Dingo Warrior/Lance Von Erich team was formed around this point..... NOVEMBER 11 or 17 1986 Dingo Warrior & Lance von Erich defeated Master Gee (George Wells) & Matt Borne for the WCCW Tag Team Titles. ~Dingo began getting more singles matches, and began a feud with a guy by the name of Master Gee. You may know him as George Wells, the former football player who wrestled Jake The Snake Roberts at Wrestlemania 2. NOVEMBER 27 1986-Dallas, TX: Reunion Arena: Thanksgiving Star Wars. Dingo Warrior defeated Master Gee in a chain match ~Dingo Warrior and Lance would drop the tag titles to Al Madril and Brian Adias on December 1 1986. ~On January 12 1987 Bob Bradley defeated Dingo Warrior in a tournament final to become the World Class Texas Champion. On February 2 1987 however Dingo would capture the title from him. (Ironically on Disc one of the new Warrior DVD he faces Jobber Bob Bradley on Superstars on September 18 1989. ~The Dingo Warrior was at one point stripped of the title because of an injury but it was eventually given back. He continued to defended the crown while gaining popularity and redefining his look. ~While still World Class Texas Champ there were rumors of Dingo going to either Japan (with the Vader gimmick) or the WWF. He ended up signing with the World Wrestling Federation. On June 17 1987 The Dingo Warrior made his WWF Debut in front of 600 fans. WWF @ Wichita Falls, TX - Auditorium - June 17, 1987 (600) Bam Bam Bigelow pinned Jerry Allen Tom Magee pinned Terry Gibbs The Dingo Warrior pinned Steve Lombardi (Warriors debut) Sam Houston pinned Tiger Chung Lee WWF Womens Champion the Fabulous Moolah pinned Debbie Combs The One Man Gang pinned Ted Dibiase Tito Santana pinned Killer Khan The Junkyard Dog pinned Nikolai Volkoff Dingo Warrior would defeat Lombardi again the next day before heading back to Texas briefly. WWF @ Odessa, TX - Ector County Coliseum - June 18, 1987 Dingo Warrior defeated Steve Lombardi On June 21 1987 Dingo Warrior traveled to Puerto Rico to make his final defense of the Texas title. (6-21-1987: Puerto Rico) Al Perez defeated Dingo Warrior for the Texas Heavyweight Title Continuing under the Dingo Warrior gimmick he returned to WWF rings on June 29 1987. There were a couple shows where Dingo Warrior used different music, one was as Dingo Warrior. (The other was at Maple Leaf Gardens to Jimmy Harts crank it up) WWF @ Detroit, MI - Joe Louis Arena - September 12, 1987 (3,000) ~The Dingo Warrior pinned Terry Gibbs; Warrior used Scandals The Warrior as his entrance music for the bout ~After another month of jobber matches as The Dingo Warrior, Vince and Jim Hellwig came together to create the name Ultimate Warrior. Vince was in the middle of making a statement about the character and just blurted out the name by accident...... Hes bigger than The Road Warriors, hes bigger than The Modern Day Warrior (Kerry Von Erich), hes, hes.....THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR!!! (Bruce pritchard talking), Thats it, hes The Ultimate Warrior. He actually made his debut under The Ultimate name first at a house show..... WWF @ Milwaukee, WI - Mecca - October 6, 1987 WWF Superstars taping ~Bam Bam Bigelow won a 10-man battle royal by last eliminating Hercules and Bob Orton Jr. at 3:47; other participants included: Outback Jack (sub. for Hillbilly Jim), the One Man Gang, Nikolai Volkoff, Boris Zhukov, the Junkyard Dog, the Ultimate Warrior, (Debut of The Ultimate Warrior name) and Don Muraco; order of elimination: OMG by Jack & JYD (0:15), Jack by Hercules (0:30), Volkoff by JYD (1:15), JYD by Orton (1:18), Muraco by Hercules & Orton (1:53), Zhukov by the Warrior (1:54), Warrior by Orton (1:59) ~The following day The Ultimate Warrior would make his WWF television debut.
