THE HOUSE Through the door there exists a house. It is a roomy house whos walls are lined with brick and stone. There is a fireplace in the house made of stone. The color of the house is earth tones. It is a house that breeds comfort and peace. The kitchen has a center island and a marble counter top. The main windows always remain shuttered with curtains, again of earth tones. However, several higher up smaller windows near the ceilings provide ample light during the day. Due to the way the main window curtains remain closed one cannot tell where the house is. One could imagine it in a woods or even in the middle of the desert, or perhaps the frozen north. It is a cozy house, a comfortable house in which one could find refuge. Perhaps that is the real meaning of this house. It is a place of escape and refuge from all that is outside. It is a place of sanctity to escape from the forces around. That little bit of heaven held onto by one who does not want to face what is outside. The problem is the house is also a prison that shields one from the light that could show one the way. It is an illusion of reality, simply a dream of ones own making. Escape from the house and one would come back to the real world, to those things one has designed the house to escape from. However, that takes admitting that the comfort you have is an illusion. Sure, your mind can think of a thousand reasons to stay where all seems at peace. However, true purpose and true peace can only be found on the outside. To stay or take a chance is the choice you face. To cling to the dream or awake to reality. Life is not about everything being easy. It is about the hard choices we all have to make. It is about making your life count and being remembered for the things you did and said that brought those moments of comfort to others around you. The truth is the house only seems to be a place of rest. It is not unlike some old haunted house full of memories of the past. Instead of the future. It leads to the past and not to the future. It goes backwards instead of forward. Life is about building and moving on as we go. The house is not about life. It is about the opposite of life.
