THE HUMBLE, HIDDEN, MYSTERIOUS, EVENT Pope Benedict XVI is a genius, a brilliant scholar of Scripture, Theology and one of the great spiritual leader of our times. When it comes to the Sacred Scriptures, the Word of God, Benedicts Great intellect and knowledge is superseded by his life of prayer wherein the Holy Spirit has enlightened him to write profoundly and inspiring us all to penetrate the very depths of the Gods Holy Word. Of all my many books, the most treasured one is the exceptionally beautiful and inspiring one called, Maria. I highly recommend it to anyone one who desires a deep impact that will draw him or her, closer to God. It can be purchased from Ignatius Press. P. O. Box 1339, Fort Collins, Colorado, 80522. 1 ( 800 ) 651- 1531. ignatius I guarantee that you will be led to Jesus in loving Him more and more and becoming an even greater and true follower of the Son and Lamb of God, Who is Love Itself. Now, a sample of Benedicts writing..... ANNUNCIATION TO MARY The Annunciation , recounted at the beginning of St. Lukes Gospel, is a humble, hidden event... No one saw it, no one except Mary knew of it - but at the same time It was crucial to the history of mankind. When the Virgin said her yes to the Angels announcement, Jesus was conceived, and with him began the new era of history that was to be ratified in Easter as the new and eternal Covenant . In fact, Marys yes perfectly mirrors that of Christ himself when he entered the world, as the Letter to the Hebrews says, interpreting Psalm 40 (39): As is written of me in the book. I have come to do your will, O God ( Hebrews 10:7 ) The Sons obedience was reflected in that of the Mother, and thus, through the encounter of these two yeses , God was able to take on a human face. This is Why the Annunciation is a Christological feast as well, because it celebrates a central mystery of Christ: the Incarnation. Behold I am the handmade of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your Word. Marys reply to the Angel is extended in the Church, which is called to make Christ present in history, offering her own availability so that God may continue to visit mankind with his mercy.
