THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SEVEN OFTEN REPEATED VERSES: A clear indication of its status is the fact that there is scarcely a Muslim in the world who has not committed it to memory. Even when a person first accepts Islam and gives the testimony of faith, The first thing that he or she memorizes is this opening chapter - the Fâtihah. This is so he or she can perform the prescribed prayers. If a person recites only this chapter in prayer, It is sufficient for the prayer to be valid. Reciting more is an optional act; It is preferred, but it is not obligatory. In the Fâtihah, Five of Allah’s names are mentioned. They are: Allah, This is Allah’s greatest name. All of his other names come after it. No one or nothing else shares this name with Him. No one else has ever been called by this name. One meaning implicit in the name Allah is that the hearts of humanity deify and worship Him. They yearn for and desire meeting Him and seeing Him. They take comfort in remembering Him. Al-Rabb (the Lord), Al-Rahmân (the Most Gracious), Al-Rahîm (the Most Merciful) And Al-Mâlik (the Master).
