THE INTERMITTENT WORD ... 23 Dec, 2014 Do you know how to give in? Most people dont. In fact, they would rather die than give in, and theyre proud of it. I read a news story about two young men who had a minor fender-bender few days ago. You know, one of those accidental backing-out-of-a-parking space bumps. So they confronted each other, discussed it, and the guy who accidentally backed into the other guys car agreed to settle the matter by letting the second guy hit him in the face - after which they would call it even. Brilliant, huh? Im sure they thought it was the macho thing to do. It wasnt. It was the silly and juvenile thing to do. The end of the story is that the second guy hit the first guy, and the first guy fell down and died, and now the other guy is going to prison. Merry Christmas. And why? Because without God, were all foolish. We cant think straight. Thats what sin does - it makes us dumb. It makes us unwilling to give in, unwilling to humble ourselves, and so we recycle the tired and tragic sitcom of hatred, strife and grief. But if we will give in to Him, we will find ourselves set free from such nonsense. Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. (Luke 2:10) Whats the good news? Just this - when you give in to God, you are set free from the ignorance of sin. Maybe youve been afraid to give in to Him. Well, thats why He comes as a baby in a manger. You see, the manner of His coming is an invitation. Hes getting down on His hands and knees, so to speak, and inviting you to draw near. So go to Him in the manger. See Him wrapped in swaddling cloths. If you do, you will glimpse His heart, and then youll never be afraid of giving in again. Ill see you on Sunday. Be true!
