THE INTERMITTENT WORD ... 26 March, 2014 Youll find what you are looking for when you stop chasing it. This is true in so many ways. People who chase the perfect diet never really find it - instead they find a whole series of diets and make you crazy telling you the the latest one is the one. People who chase the perfect mate never find him or her. Instead, they find a whole list of defects in everyone they get close to. People who chase money never find it, because enough is never enough. They just keep chasing it. But when you seek God, you get everything else in the bargain. Jesus said, Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God. (Jn 17:3) That phrase eternal life doesnt just mean life after death. The meaning is deeper and richer. The Greek word is zoe and it is distinguished from bios, where bios refers to biological life (breathing, sleeping, metabolizing) but zoe to something more. If youre reading this, youve got bios. But zoe is something greater. It is life with a purpose, life with hope and meaning. It is a life of joy, even in the midst of pain. It is the life that God has, which allows Him to be simultaneously sad and deliriously joyful. Some of us dont think you can be sad and joyful at the same time, but thats because they dont know God. So theyre chasing happiness as if you can have it apart from Him. But heres the greatest secret in the cosmos - God is joy. God is hope. God is love. Pursue Him, and you find them. Dont think so? Think its better to chase joy apart from Him? Well, in the immortal words of Dr. Phil - Hows that working out for you? Maybe you need to adjust your direction. What youre looking for is found in Him.
