THE INTERMITTENT WORD ... 4 Dec, 2014 Are you afraid of disappointing God? Many believers live with a perpetual fear of letting Him down. Because they are naturally introspective, they relentlessly criticize themselves. Instead of serving Him with freedom and joy, they try to serve with neurotic terror and hair-splitting analysis. I feel for them. So does God. In defense of a woman who gave Him a gift that others didnt understand, Jesus said, She did what she could. (Mk 14:8) The implication is that there were things she couldnt do - and so He didnt expect her to. Its crucial that you understand this. Theologically speaking, it means that you have Christs righteousness and so you dont need to manufacture your own. But in everyday language, it means that God knows your weaknesses, your blind spots, and your insecurities. And He looks past them. If you are a believer, then He delights in what you CAN give (your love), not what you cant. Maybe you need to remember that. Hes not the Great Employer in the Sky, desperately trying to get things done and needing you to make it happen. He is a Father, and to steal a line from a favorite movie of mine, He sees you.
