THE INTERVIEW: In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark - TopicsExpress

THE INTERVIEW: In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show Skylark Tonight. When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un. Review: I’m sure one of the biggest question surrounding “The Interview” is “Does it live up to its hype and controversy?”. Before I answer that question I want to mention a few things. I’m a big fan of the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg duo. Two of their movies are on my top favorite comedies of all time and most, not all, movies Seth Rogen stars in I enjoy. Once the movie started to develop all this controversy I knew that many critics and people who otherwise wouldn’t of seen the movie, would go and watch it solely because of the controversy, and I also knew they would rate this movie pretty low. “The Interview” does not live up to the attention it has gotten. This is my least favorite out of the duos film series. The concept sounded hilarious but the delivery of the comedic value fell seriously flat. I found James Franco to be more annoying then funny and it saddens me to say he is the Jar Jar Binks of “The Interview” while Seth Rogen plays… Seth Rogen (which is not a bad thing). I didn’t have the laugh out experience and was instead left with forced giggles here and there. “The Interview” was watchable but fell flat in many areas and if you are expecting a laugh fest you are better off watching another comedy. Its bad when the funniest parts of the movie is in the trailer! “The Interview” didn’t fail due to its hype and attention, it failed due to its lack of comedy. D RATED R RUNTIME 1hr 52 min
