THE INVADERS Richard Matheson proposed this story as Devil Doll - TopicsExpress

THE INVADERS Richard Matheson proposed this story as Devil Doll to producer Buck Houghton and Rod Serling in early 1960. It told the story of a Devil Doll trying to kill a woman and it was rejected because the story was too grim. So Matheson changed the theme from horror to science-fiction, the single Devil Doll to two aliens, and then TWILIGHT ZONE bought it. Mathewson later wrote the original concept into a short story, Prey, which was published in April 1969 issue of PLAYBOY, and Prey was filmed as a segment of TRILOGY OF TERROR (1975) with Karen Black being terrorized by a fetish doll possessed by the spirit of a Zuni warrior. Its the same damn story, Matheson later recalled, except here theres only one doll.
