THE JESTER (Der Purimspieler), a 1937 Yiddish film A Joseph Green Production I have at least ten stills from this film, and here is one of them. The film starred Hymie Jacobson, Miriam Kressyn and Jonas Turkow. The film also included our own dear Suzannes father, Max Bozyk, who portrayed Reb Zurekh. A summary of the film, according to imdb: Getsel, a wandering Purim player, comes to a Galica village and gets a job with Reb Nuchem, the shoemaker. He falls in love with Esther, the shoemakers daughter, but knows she is in love with a wandering circus player. However, Getzel is content in his work and dreams. Esthers father inherits a fortune and attempts to marry her to a man of his choice, but she flees with Getzel to Warsaw, where he meets and marries the circus player. Getzel returns to the village and is blamed for Esthers disappearance until she shows up and explains what happened. Getzel shoulders his pack and wanders on to another village. Writing credits include Joseph Green (story) (as Joseph Victor); Itzik Manger(dialogue) (as I. Manger), and Chaver Pahver (uncredited). It was filmed at an unknown location(s) in Poland. In the photo here are Hymie and Miriam, who in real life at the time were husband and wife.
