THE JOY OF A SONG For those of you I grew up with, little - TopicsExpress

THE JOY OF A SONG For those of you I grew up with, little explanation is necessary. For those of you who didnt, little explanation is sufficient. But, Ill try. As children, we used to sing this song at the Hecht House Jewish Community Center in Boston. My sister would occasionally start to sing it at home when doing just about anything. We sang it in synagogues, Hebrew schools, and in the streets of our neighborhood called Mattapan. It was a part of our lives landscape. On July 4, 1976, coincidentally the United States bicentennial day, Israeli forces successfully raided the Ugandan airport of Entebbe to rescue Jews who were being held hostage by terrorists. There was a small number of friendly nations that helped, but, by and large, Israel was the only country in the world that took direct action to save our people. To hear Israels soldiers singing our song is a sweetness beyond compare. We still sing the song. Louder, please--LOUDER! The words mean, Behold, how pleasing it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! youtube/watch?v=ECYQtONWOxk
