THE JUST ONE DIED FOR THE UNJUST ONES HILLSIDE HELPS-“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18) There is a great divide that separates sinful man from holy God. Isaiah revealed this most desperate situation, “But God’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that He cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you that He will not hear.” (Isa. 59:1-2) The Lord God cannot and will not change. He will not compromise His righteousness and holiness at any time. He is, “of purer eyes than to behold evil and cannot look on iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13a) The Lord God has provided, in His grace, a means by which the sinner can be forgiven and a relationship can be established. Peter tells us of God’s works on our behalf, “Christ also hath once suffered for sins…” God the Son came into this world to save sinners, by offering His own body as the supreme sacrifice and shedding His perfect blood as atonement for our sins. He went to the Cross one time, making a forever sacrifice for the sins of all who would come to Him by means of His blood and His Cross. The innocent One died on the Cross for the guilty ones, “the just for the unjust”. This is called substitution. He took our place, enduring the Cross and offering Himself to God the Father in our behalf. No higher form of love can be demonstrated, “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) Truly Jesus gave up His life for our life. He died that we might live eternally. He died providing for each of us the opportunity to live eternally with Him in heaven. The scripture tells us why Jesus suffered… “that He might bring us to God”. Jesus bridged the gap by laying down His life as the only true substitute. Though He died for us, on the third day, He was resurrected from the dead, “being put to death in the flesh, but quickened (made alive) by the Spirit.” This is God’s only plan for the salvation of sinners. It is only through Jesus that the unjust can be made just before Holy God. Jesus is the only way. (Bro. Jerry McNeer) Please Share
