THE KEY TO LOVE It is a falling, for sure. A falling-away of history. A falling-away of thought. A falling-away of time itself… Yet, in truth, the ‘me’ cannot fall in love. It is the ‘me’, the thought-constructed identity, that falls away, and what remains is love itself, a love with no name, a universal and unconditioned love, a love that was always present, yet overlooked by the seeker in their pursuit of something called ‘love’… The ‘me’ does not understand love, its non-possessive nature, the way it sets the other free, free to honour their beautiful aloneness. The ‘me’ wants to possess the other, make them ‘mine’, incorporate them into ‘myself’. It wants a future, it wants to KNOW. It puts conditions on love. And it fears the loss of the other, fears the end of the ‘relationship’, fears change. Where there is fear and control, and conditions, implicit threats, you know the ego has co-opted love. For the ego only sees beginnings and endings, and love knows no such thing. ‘They bring me love, and they can take it away’ – the biggest illusion of all, responsible for so much drama, so much conflict and misery, within and without. Nobody brings love, and nobody can take it away. Nobody can complete you, and nobody can make you incomplete. So easy to forget… Love liberates, ego says ‘mine’. Is this wrong? No. It is also part of life, and to be honoured deeply. But for those who are interested in truth, for those who no longer want to shut their eyes to reality, this deeper exploration of love holds the key. ~ Jeff Foster.
