THE LADIES AUXILIARY VFW CELEBRATES A CENTURY OF SERVICE VFW Commander-in-Chief William “Bill” Thien to Address Ladies Auxiliary #LAVFWNC2014 ST. LOUIS, Mo. – July 22, 2014 — Today marks the last time that William “Bill” Thien, VFW Post 3281 in New Albany, Ind., will address the Ladies Auxiliary as VFW Commander-in-Chief. He will be escorted down the Aisle of Honor and then address the Ladies Auxiliary delegation. Thien served in the U. S. Navy from 1969-1974, and served five years in the Indiana National Guard. His decorations include the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Bar, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), National Defense Service Medal and several from the National Guard. Special guests today will include VFW National Home for Children Buddy Poppy Child Grant Gentges, representatives from the Siteman Comprehensive Cancer Center, Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest Winner Alessandra Levato, and special award winner Melissa Jarboe, who created the Military Veteran Project in the wake of losing her husband to injuries received in battle. After a session recess, the 2014-2015 Membership Kickoff will take place, led by Membership Ambassador Tami Elliott. Nominations for officers will be open, as members prepare to elect the 2014-2015 leadership team tomorrow. Approximately 3,000 members are attending the convention, which runs through tomorrow.
