THE LADY IS A CHAMP! Being a mom of two little boys is not easy but being a wonderful mom of two little boys, a personal trainer, fitness competitor, BJJ noGi champ, kickboxing coach and a fearless MMA fighter among other things… The lady is a champ! Meet Melissa Myers, one of our wonderful female coaches at ETC. She is a blue belt and a force to reckoned with. Melissa is as humble and generous as she is talented! 5 Qs with Melissa. WHEN did you start BJJ? M: 2 years ago WHY do you love it? M: Because every time you learn a new move its like Christmas! Lol! Its hard for me to describe why Bjj is so addicting, but its kind of like a dance. An aggressive one when I do it especially. And depending on what move someone does it changes the dance and there are an infinite number of dances to learn. WHO is your biggest inspiration? My biggest inspiration in Bjj is Professor Christian Allen. WHERE do you train? M: I train at High Altitude Martial Arts and Easton Training Center Denver WHAT nobody told you but all newcomers should know? M: When I started Bjj I didnt know exactly how it started. Meaning, how do you end up on the ground and what is supposed to happen? It starts standing like two wrestlers and someone usually initiates a takedown and that is how you end up on the ground. Unless someone attempts a submission from the standing position, in which case the match never has to go to the ground at all. Also, after I understood the main positions in Bjj I realized how important this sport is to all females from a self defense perspective. My two little boys are learning Bjj and i hope they continue on with it, but if I ever had a little girl it would be an absolute requirement that she start Bjj by the time she was 4 and must reach the highest belt level for her age before she is allowed to date
